How to solo without a companion in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

For players who want the true Wo Long experience

One of the ways that the developers have made things a little easier for players in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is by giving them a companion. This companion, which you get at the beginning of the game, really can help out with the first couple of boss fights. You can get acclimated to the combat system, like learning how to deflect, while your companion gets some extra damage in on your enemy. The companion is essentially a way for the developers to help players given the lack of difficulty level options. However, for true Soulsborne players or those who like a challenge, the companion in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty might not be a welcome sight.

If you fall into this crowd, you might be looking for ways to get rid of your companion so you can go at the game solo. Luckily, there is a simple way to discard your companion in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and you can read how to do that in the guide below.

From the very start of the game, if you want to have a solo experience, all you need to do is follow the steps below:

  • Open your menu
  • Go to the inventory and navigate to the “Usable Items” tab by scrolling over
  • Find the Willow Branch item, which should be near the top of the tab
  • Use the Willow Branch, which discards your companion immediately

While you are free to do this without any consequence, the more time you spend with a companion helps you build a stronger relationship with them. The better relationship you have, the more rewards you can earn from your companion. So there are additional benefits to keeping them around aside from their help in combat.

Bring your companion back

If you think you have made a mistake, you can bring your companion back by going to a Rest Flag and using it. On the menu that will appear, you can select “Reinforcements” and choose any one of your available companions to join you immediately.
