It may be a decade since we first stepped foot in Los Santos, but with the first trailer for GTA 6, players are jumping back into the city to get their Grand Theft Auto fix.

Of course, San Andreas County is more fun if you have friends to enjoy it with, so here’s everything you need to know about GTA Online crossplay.

Does GTA Online have crossplay?

No, GTA Online does not have crossplay. Despite most games that are released these days featuring it, Rockstar has never added it to the game, meaning you can only play with friends who are using the same system as you.

Can players in the same console family play together?

Yes, players in the same console family can play GTA Online together. For example, if you have a PlayStation 5, and your friend has a PS4, you can both jump into a GTA Online lobby together and get up to hijinx across Los Santos. The same applies to players who own Xbox Ones, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X consoles.

There is a catch though, as you need to ensure you are both playing the same version of the game. So if you are both on PlayStations, you both need to be playing the PS4 version to play together.

Can Steam, Epic Games, and Rockstar launcher players join each other on PC?

Yes, it doesn’t matter which launcher you use to play GTA Online on PC, as they can all play with each other.

I know this from experience, as I play GTA Online races with my friends regularly, and we all use different launchers. I use the Rockstar one personally, while the rest are split across Epic and Steam, and we can all get into games with each other with no problem.

Does GTA Online have cross-progression?

Yes, GTA Online does have cross-progression using the Rockstar Games Social Club. For example, I play on both PC and PS5, and my character model, inventory, garage, and funds all transfer across between one and the other.

The money does only include earned money, however, and any funds secured by buying Shark cards are locked to that platform. So if I were to buy a Shark Card from the PS Store, I wouldn’t see that money when I log in on my PC.

To link your accounts using Rockstar Social Club:

  1. Go to the official Rockstar Social Club website.
  2. Sign in, or create an account if you don’t have one yet.
  3. Select your account icon at the top-right of the web page.
  4. From the dropdown menu, select Settings.
  5. Select “Linked Accounts.”
  6. Choose the account you want to link to Rockstar Social Club and sign in.
