How to get the Scaled Armor set in Elden Ring

Conquer your enemies with the Scaled Armor
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

If you’re still trudging around the Lands Between in Elden Ring without an armor set, then that’s about to change. You can find the Scaled Armor set at about the halfway point of the game, but only if you complete specific steps prior to searching for it. Unlike some other armor sets in Elden Ring, the Scaled Armor cannot be acquired unless you visit and start a quest in one specific location.

That location is Volcano Manor, the stronghold in the middle of Mt. Gelmir. You can find both locations in the far northwestern corner of Liurnia. However, if you’re a lower level, this place won’t be safe for you just yet. There are high-level enemies guarding the manor and also some inside that can kill you without skipping a beat.

If you’re a higher level, though, you can make your way inside the manor, start the questline and then proceed to acquiring the Scaled Armor set.

The first step you need to take is to accept the invitation to join Volcano Manor. We went over this invitation in a previous article but essentially, if you accept, you gain access to additional rooms in the manor. Also, you can acquire the Recusant Finger, which allows you to invade other players’ worlds.

If you accepted the offer, then go down the hallway next to the woman and bodyguard. On the right hand side, there will be a door you can open that will have the Recusant Finger and a letter sitting on a table. Loot these items and then read the letter by going to the last page of your inventory. Once you read it, a red icon will appear on your map in north Stormhill, just under the bridge, as seen in the screenshot below.

If you head to that location, you’ll be invaded by an NPC known as Old Knight Istvan. You need to defeat him, which isn’t too difficult. Once you do, you can loot his body and acquire the whole Scaled Armor set. The armor is fairly lightweight and doesn’t boast huge defense numbers — but it’s perfect for a player looking to stay at medium equip load.
