G2 Esports have been eliminated from the Apex Legends Global Series Split 2 Playoffs after placing 16th in the losers bracket on Saturday. The North American team came into the tournament as one of the favorites to make it into the Grand Finals.

However, they struggled throughout the tournament and failed to show their best form. They ended Day 1 of ALGS Split 2 Playoffs in 23rd place. The 95 points garnered were not enough to see them through the winners’ bracket, so they kicked off day 2 in the losers bracket.

Their Day 2 performances started far worse than what fans expected. They were unable to stop attacks from Revenant Esports and placed 16th after the first match.

Furthermore, the team added to their problems with their inability to get big points in the following games. Eventually, Spacestation Gaming knocked them out in Match 6.  With this, G2 becomes the first North American team to exit the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs.

G2’s Dezignful steps down after ALGS Split 2 playoffs exit

After elimination from the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs, G2’s Tyler “Dezignful” Gardner announced his intention to step away from professional play. The four-time ALGS MVP tweeted his thoughts on the tournament and explained that he will focus on content creation and streaming.

“Wanted to go out on a banger but it wasn’t meant to be,” he tweeted, indicating that he had been considering stepping down before the LAN event.

G2 acquired Dezignful and his teammates in 2021 following Sola Fide’s dissolvement. The organization left Apex in 2020 but made a comeback after signing the Sola Fide squad.

The talented trio finished fourth in North America Split 2 Pro League and won the JBL Quantum Cup. The team also won the UMG Champions Invitational as well as the DreamHack Influencer Invitational.

Despite the early exit of G2 and NRG, North America are still very much in the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs with six teams in the Grand Finals already.
