Diablo 4 has no shortage of bosses contained within the dungeons and other areas of Sanctuary. From main story bosses like Astaroth to side dungeon bosses to bosses in Strongholds, you can’t go many places in the game without running into one.
However, World Bosses are an entirely different beast in Diablo 4. Players got to experience their first World Boss during the Diablo 4 beta when Ashava the Pestilent surprised players in Fractured Peaks.
Unfortunately, Ashava and the other World Bosses will not be so easily fought in the full version of the game. Instead, players will have to wait for quite a while before they can have their shot against one of the World Bosses.
So when can you fight a World Boss? Here’s what I found out.
Fighting World Bosses in Diablo 4
You will not be able to take on any of the World Bosses in Diablo 4 until you have fully completed the main story. Once you see the end credits roll and you reach the epilogue, World Bosses will only then become available for you to fight.
Of course, as many players already know, you can’t simply go and fight a World Boss at any time you want. You have to wait for them to appear in-game, which is usually at set times. If you’re playing Diablo 4 when a World Boss is set to arrive, you will receive a notification on your screen that says when and where to find the boss.
For example, I was in the middle of running a dungeon and got a notification that stated Avarice, the Gold Cursed was going to be in the Fields of Desecration in Hawezar from 11:30-12:00. The game will also keep track of the World Boss’ arrival on your screen and map by displaying a countdown timer. On your large map, you can see where a World Boss is going to spawn by looking for the event icon.
We don’t have a schedule for World Bosses as of yet, but the developers should make one available shortly after Diablo 4 launches. As of right now, we know that Ashava and Avarice will likely make an appearance, with another World Boss or two also presumably arriving at some point as well.
