Starfield: How to make a ship your Home Ship

Change your main ship

From the very beginning of Starfield, you will have your own spaceship that you can fly to any system and planet in the galaxy. Your first ship is called the Frontier, and it’s a serviceable enough rig to get you from point A to point B.

However, at some point, you will want to upgrade the Frontier and make a new ship your primary one. In order to do this, you need to transfer the Home Ship status of your current ship to the new one you want to start using in Starfield.

How to set a ship as your Home Ship in Starfield

Your Home Ship is the one that you actually fly and it’s where all of your crew and cargo is stored. Any other ship you own is stored in your fleet and can be accessed by visiting a Ship Technician at a spaceport. Naturally, if you buy or acquire a new ship in Starfield, you will likely want to start flying that one and make it your Home Ship.

Unfortunately, Starfield doesn’t do a great job of explaining how to do this, so allow me to explain.

To set your Home Ship, all you need to do is visit a technician at a spaceport. The easiest one to find is at the spaceport in New Atlantis, as the technician is right by the landing dock next to the Trade Authority Kiosk. When you speak to the technician, tell him that you want to view and modify your current ships.

This will bring up a menu that displays your current Home Ship in Starfield. To change that, scroll through your fleet until you reach the ship you want to start using. On this ship’s page, you will see an option in the bottom right corner that says “Make Home Ship.” Select this option, and that ship will become your primary one.

If it’s a brand new ship, then you will need to register it for a fee in order to land it at spaceports. Registering can be done by visiting your ship customization menu.

Alternatively, if you steal a ship by boarding it, all you need to do is sit down in the pilot seat after clearing out every enemy on board. Once you sit down, you will have the option to make that ship your Home Ship via a text box that appears on the screen. As previously stated, though, you will need to register it for a small fee before you’re able to have full privileges with the ship.

And there you have it, all of the ways you can set your Home Ship in Starfield. It’s not too confusing of a process once you understand exactly how it works.
