Spider-Man 2 is one of the best-looking games of 2023, showing off the burrows of New York City in a way that has never been done before in a video game. However, you have two different ways of experiencing the graphics in Spider-Man 2 — and that’s by using either Performance or Fidelity mode.
These are the only two graphics modes you have available to you within the “Visuals” tab of the in-game settings. Applying either of them will require a brief restart of the game. If you’re curious about which one you should use in Spider-Man 2, check out the guide below.
Performance or Fidelity graphics mode in Spider-Man 2?
For starters, let’s go over the difference between Performance and Fidelity mode.
Performance mode targets 60 frames per second but reduces the overall graphical fidelity of the game. However, the mode still offers some ray-tracing effects and looks decent overall, especially if you’re playing on a high resolution panel.
On the other hand, Fidelity mode targets 30 frames per second, offers full ray-tracing, and looks much crisper than the graphics in Performance mode. Of course, all of this extra graphical fidelity cuts your total frame rate in half compared to the other graphics mode.
Which graphics mode should you use?
Which mode you use really comes down to personal preference. If you want the best-looking version of Spider-Man 2, then go with Fidelity mode. However, if you want a smoother experience when web slinging through New York, then Performance mode is the way to go.
In my opinion, Performance mode is the better overall graphics option in Spider-Man 2. The visual difference between it and Fidelity mode isn’t substantial enough to warrant a 50% drop in overall frame rate. Fidelity mode does look great, but the choppy frame rate can make slinging through the streets feel a bit lackluster.
I recommend going between the two in the Visuals tab of the settings in Spider-Man 2 and testing each one out to see what your personal preference is. This setting can be changed at any time but does require a brief restart that only lasts a couple of seconds and places you right back where you left off.
