Should Apex Legends feature a map rotation system for public matches?

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Apex Legends features two extremely fun and fast-paced maps in King’s Canyon and World’s Edge. King’s Canyon was one of the most refreshing maps in a multiplayer game since the original Fortnite map released in 2017. Respawn obviously saw the feedback from fans and decided to only make minor changes to the map over time. Seasons 1 and 2 saw some background changes like the Leviathan coming on the island, but nothing major.

After a while, King’s Canyon wore down fans, and around this time World’s Edge arrived with Season 3. Though a well-thought-out map, it simply doesn’t compare to the original King’s Canyon. So, with fans pining for the return of the original map, should Respawn entertain the idea of a map rotation?

The best of both of Apex Legends’ worlds

Inevitably, some divide will arise when a game like Apex Legends introduces two maps. Fans of the original map will stand by it vehemently, while a community will form around the second iteration. A similar situation arose with PUBG in its early days.

Apex Legends World's Edge map

Fans of Apex Legends by no mean hate World’s Edge. In fact, many agree that it’s a solid map overall. However, there was a looting problem at the beginning of Season 3 that soiled some player’s feelings towards the map. This, paired with a favoring for King’s Canyon, has left some players with a strong desire to return to the Leviathan-roaming map.

But there are, of course, still fans of World’s Edge. So, should Respawn pool the maps together into some kind of rotation? Many fans would appreciate the combination, as this ensures neither map becomes too stale. PUBG did something similar as the developers kept designing new maps.

Fans asking for a King’s Canyon reunion would certainly be thrilled to hear of a map rotation. That said, Respawn would need to find a balance between what the fans want and what’s best for the game. Perhaps they could keep certain game modes, like Winter Express, on one map and other modes on another map.
