Respawn teases the Charge Rifle in official Apex Legends art?

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Alongside launching Apex Legends Season 2 a few weeks ago, Respawn also released a bounty of art and concepts on Artstation. These releases showcase the design work that goes into making the game. However, sometimes they also show game content and features that were scrapped or are yet to be released.

Whether deliberately or accidentally, senior environment artist Austin Arnett seems to have done just that in his Interior Lighting post. Below is one of the pictures from that post, which shows a building in the Containment compound. Notice anything?

On the floor, next to the ammo pick-ups, lies what appears to be a Charge Rifle. It seems the classic Titanfall weapon may be making its return.

The Charge Rifle in Apex Legends

In Titanfall and Titanfall 2, the Charge Rifle was an anti-Titan energy weapon. What role it might serve in Apex Legends is unclear. It’s also entirely possible that the asset was dropped in this image deliberately by Respawn as a little joke. The best case scenario would be that the studio is saving the weapon for a mid-season content drop. We will have to wait and see.

In the meantime, there are quite a lot of other interesting weapon details in official Respawn Artstation posts. Here are some of our favorites!

This concept image showcases the DCOM 6x sniper optic, equipped for some reason on a Mozambique.

Spicy sausage

Nothing particularly odd about this image, but we love that the Thermite Grenade is nicknamed Spicy Sausage.

There is a lot going on in this one. Aside from the fact that the player in it is not holding a G7 Scout at all, it shows the Scout as an energy weapon that can equip gold sniper stocks. Those are not in the game, or at least not yet.
