Overwatch League and Twitter sign massive content deal

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Overwatch League just signed a huge deal with social media giant Twitter. The two-year deal they signed back in January will allow Overwatch League to deliver highlights and livestream content directly via Twitter.  This kicks off with the Overwatch League All-Star Weekend beginning this weekend, August 25-26.

Daniel Cherry, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Activision Blizzard Esports Leagues, is quite pleased with the deal, as he stated the following:

From the inception of the Overwatch League, the community on Twitter has always been one of our most passionate and engaged. That’s why we are particularly excited to announce this collaboration, beginning with the Overwatch League’s All-Star Weekend.

What the deal includes

  • Real-time video highlights of All-Star Weekend
  • Livestream of the weekly live show Watchpoint
  • Distributing real-time highlight clips from the regular season (Playoffs, Grand Finals, and All-Star Weekend)

This sounds incredible and great for them to branch out to another widely used social media platform. All-Star Weekend will be a good testing period for them to see how the Twitterverse reacts.
