The third match this past Friday of week three was a close one between lowly-rated teams in the Overwatch League. The Los Angeles Valiant beat the Washington Justice 3-1.
A quick debut
Both these teams only had one win coming into this match, with the Valiant being the bigger flop. Yet, both teams seemed to be progressing in the right direction. With the Valiant, their break in-between stages was spent on getting the right roster on stage. This led to sticking to Kyle “KSF” Frandanisa on Zarya. Similarly, they finally decided to keep shot-caller Scott “Custa” Kennedy on the lineup, and it seems to be working.
On the Washington Justice, they seem to be changing from a mainly Korean roster to a healthy Korean and English mix. With their only English roster player being Corey “Corey” Nigra, recent signings Yeonjoon “ArK” Hong and Nikola “sleepy” Andrews seem to be helping. The more surprising signing out of the two, Sleepy was announced the morning of the match, playing after very little practice with the team. With more practice, this team looks to be scary in the future. For this match, one of the biggest bright spots for the Justice was main tank Junhwa “Janus” Song, playing Reinhardt in his trademark aggressive style.
Valiant winning for the second time
Their newfound coordination was the Valiant’s key to this second victory this season. People expected this team to do a lot better this season due to their great teamwork last season. It wasn’t there in stage one. But after some time to recuperate and get their first win, the team seems to be finally gelling together. One of the standout players on the Valiant was Indy “SPACE” Halpern, his consistent D.Va play key to their win.
The Los Angeles Valiant face the Dallas Fuel in Dallas next, while the Justice face the Shanghai Dragons in a couple weeks.
