How to swap Stamina and Hearts in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is like Breath of the Wild on steroids. It’s a lot more complex and can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. Luckily, there’s a few things in the game that are forgiving. In TotK, you collect Light of Blessing items after completing shrines, which can be transformed into Heart Containers or used to increase your Stamina meter. If you end up wishing you used your Light of Blessing key items differently, you can.

Oh, but it will cost you. It’s not that easy in Tears of the Kingdom.

Complete the Who Goes There side quest

If you want to transform your Heart Containers into Stamina or swap your Stamina for Heart Containers, you’ll need to head to the Royal Hidden Passage. Of course, it’s not that simple. To get access to this location, you first need to complete two side quests in Lookout Landing.

The first is Who Goes There. After completing one of the regional Temples, make your way back to the Lookout Landing and climb down into the Emergency Shelter. This is where you’ll find Jerrin sweeping some stairs. You’ll also notice a new hole in the wall behind her. When you talk to her, she will tell you that she cleaned too hard, resulting in a chunk of the wall getting knocked out.

Oh, and there’s a creepy demonic voice coming from inside the hole.

Naturally, you will crouch down and head into the passage. You’ll eventually come across a demonic statue, one that was hidden underground by Goddess Hylia long, long ago. When you approach the statue, one Heart will be removed from you. Leave and tell Jerrin the bad news.

Complete A Deal with a Statue

Yeah, you don’t just get to leave. Again, it isn’t that easy.

Head back into the creepy hole and speak to the demonic statue again. You can then request either a Heart Container or more Stamina. While the creep will give it to you, you will also have to listen to a bit of a convoluted speech. This will go through the process of how to exchange the essence, however, so listen up!

How to exchange your Heart Containers and Stamina

Here’s the process, as outlined by the demon statue:

  • The statue will give you 100 rupees, taking a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel
  • Pay another 120 rupees in exchange for a new Heart Container or new Stamina Vessel

Basically, you have now paid the difference of 20 rupees to swap essences! All it took was chatting with a demented statue!
