How to remove sludge in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is full of a lot of questionable substances, some of which you don’t want to mess with. We learned the hard way… But one peculiar liquid known as ooze won’t hurt you. Instead, the brown sludge found all over Lanayru will slow you down if you walk through it.

The ongoing nuisance will leave you trying to find ways to get rid of it, especially during side quests like Mired in Muck where you’re forced to deal with it. There are a few ways to deal with this goop at least, meaning you don’t have to keep trudging through it.

The most common way to deal with sludge is to find a Splash Fruit, maybe two. This fruit can be found throughout the Lanayru region, sometimes even right near patches of ooze.

Simply walk up to the Splash Fruit and press A to harvest it. Once you have collected enough Splash Fruit, you can attach the fruit to an arrow and shoot it at the goop. Here’s how:

  • Hold R to draw an arrow
  • Hold up on the D-Pad
  • Select Splash Fruit on the Attach menu
  • Aim your shot and release R to fire away

You can also throw the Splash Fruit right onto the ooze and then shoot it with an arrow. This takes less coordination but you may find it to be less accurate. Drop your Splash Fruit and then press A to pick it up and throw it. Remember to select “Near” on the D-Pad.
