There are plenty of ways to loot new items in Diablo 4. From cracking open hollow trees to tearing through a dungeon and defeating its various bosses, your inventory will surely fill up before you know it. Among the many looting methods in Diablo 4, there are a few that are far less accessible than others. One of the rarest forms of looting comes in the form of Silent Chests, which contain valuable loot in Diablo 4, but can’t be opened like a regular chest.
Silent Chests are not commonly found throughout the world of Sanctuary. Instead, they are placed far away from each other and seem to not spawn in every single region of the map. This means players won’t be opening Silent Chests often, but when they eventually come across one, they should be ready to crack it open and loot what’s inside.

Opening Silent Chests in Diablo 4
The only current method of opening a Silent Chest in Diablo 4 is through a Whispering Key. Whispering Keys can only be obtained from the Purveyor of Curiosities shop, one of which is located in the hub city of Kyovashad. The shop is located south of the central waypoint at the money bag icon.
However, unlike other shops, the Purveyor of Curiosities does not take regular gold. Instead, the shop only takes Murmuring Obols, which is another form of currency. Murmuring Obols are mainly obtained through completing in-game events, which you can regularly find on your map. They will be marked by large, orange circles on your map and require you to complete a task within a specific timeframe. At the end of the event, a chest will appear and give you roughly 20-30 Murmuring Obols, among other loot.
At the Purveyor of Curiosities, you can find Whispering Keys on sale for 20 Murmuring Obols if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the shop’s wares. Unlike other items at this shop, you will be guaranteed to receive a genuine Whispering Key upon your purchase. Once you buy a key, it will be added to your inventory. Then, the next time you stumble across a Silent Chest, you will be able to open it.
