How to get Alohomora the Unlocking Charm in Hogwarts Legacy

Channel your inner-Hermione Granger

Have you ever stumbled across a door that has a lock on it in either Hogwarts castle or the surrounding hamlets? If you have, then you’ve also undoubtedly wondered how to get it open to reveal the contents inside the room it’s locking you away from. Some fresh Hogwarts Legacy players might assume that they eventually need to acquire a special Talent to unlock those doors. However, Harry Potter superfans will certainly know that the only way to unlock a door in Hogwarts is through the use of the Unlocking Charm, Alohomora.

Alohomora was made famous in the very first Harry Potter book and movie. Hermione Granger uses it to open a locked door that’s guarding Fluffy, the three-headed dog. In Hogwarts Legacy, though, you don’t have access to Alohomora as quickly as Hermione does. Instead, you need to wait until the middle of the game.

Learning Alohomora in Hogwarts Legacy

To be more specific, you need to wait until a certain mid-game main story quest before getting to learn Alohomora. The developers likely did it this way to prevent players from getting to access all of the castle’s secrets too early on. By delaying the use of Alohomora, players have to go back and find any locked doors they have already seen, which leads to more replayability.

The exact main story quest that unlocks the use of Alohomora in Hogwarts Legacy is called The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament. It’s difficult to say how long it will take you to reach this quest, as every player goes through the game at their own speed. However, if you’re just focusing on the main story, you should reach it in around 5-7 hours.

During this quest, the caretaker, Gladwin Moon, will teach you the Alohomora spell, as you need it to get into the Faculty Tower for him. We won’t spoil anything else about the quest.

When you first learn Alohomora, you will be able to use it to unlock level one doors. After you use the spell, you will be greeted with a lockpicking mini-game that you must complete to get the door open.

To unlock level two and three doors, you need to bring Gladwin Moon Demiguise moons, which are the subject of the caretaker’s quest. To unlock level two doors, you need to bring Gladwin Moon nine Demiguise moons, and unlocking level three doors requires you to bring them 13 Demiguise moons.
