Throughout the long-running FromSoftware franchise, affectionately nicknamed “Soulsbornes,” there’s been one character that’s made an appearance in just about every title. This character is simply known as “Patches.” He is bald, carries a large shield and spear and has a plucky attitude that players have come to love. Prior to the release of Elden Ring, fans were worried that Patches might not make a return in FromSoft’s latest title. However, we are happy to report that Patches can be found on the map and is as likable as ever.
It won’t take much work to get to Patches’ location on the map. However, once you meet him, you won’t be thrust into some immediate dialogue like in the past. Instead, a fight ensues with Patches, provided you do one thing. All of the details regarding Patches and his location in Elden Ring are viewable below.
Finding Patches in Elden Ring
Patches is found in the depths of Murkwater Cave in Limgrave. This location is just along the eastern coast of the river that separates western and eastern Limgrave. You can see exactly where the cave is located below.
The cave is located in a ravine, so you’ll have to make your way down from the cliffs above. You’ll also have to deal with Bloody Fingers Nerijus, as he guards the entrance to the cave. You can either fight him or run far enough so that he returns to his world. In the latter option, just return to the cave’s entrance, which is located on the side of the cliff on the western side, and head in. If you want to fight him, make sure to talk to Bloody Finger Hunter Yaru, who’s located under the bridge to the north of the cave. If you talk to him, he’ll come and help fight Nerijus.
Battling Patches
Once inside the cave, sit at the Lost Grace site and make your way past the undead in the first room, but be careful to not step over the bell alarms in front of the grass. Head down the straight tunnel to find more enemies and a treasure chest. With the chest secured, head back and then turn down the tunnel on the left side to enter Patches’ lair.
However, Patches won’t be inside once you enter the area. Instead, there will only be a treasure chest. If you choose to loot it, Patches will come out and say it’s not very nice to steal from other people. This triggers the fight with Patches. He uses his spear and shield to great effect, along with an AoE attack by breathing some chemicals that makes it hard to see him.
Just use your shield if you’re a melee character, or attack with spells at range if you’re a mage. We won’t spoil what happens during the fight, but it’s well worth the wait if you’re a longtime Dark Souls fan.
