When you first start a new playthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will be on the nautiloid ship and immediately see a Githyanki woman tied up. As the cutscene goes on, the Githyanki and yourself will have a mind flayer parasite inserted into your brain. After the ship crashes, you find out this woman’s name is Lae’zel, and she joins your party for the entirety of the ship sequence.
However, after the ship crashes and you wind up on the beach, Lae’zel is nowhere to be found, leaving you to find her for yourself in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Since Lae’zel is a Fighter with an already-interesting backstory, many players will be anxious to find her once they hit the beach. If you saved Shadowheart, then she will be the first character you see, and the two of you can team up to find Lae’zel together. Although, I must advise you to try and find Lae’zel quickly, as she will disappear for most of the early game if you wait too long to find her.
Finding Lae’zel in Baldur’s Gate 3
Lae’zel is located just northwest of the Overgrown Ruins and Roadside Cliffs waypoints. You will need to make your way through the crashed nautiloid ship and then go right past the Roadside Cliffs. You can see exactly where to go on the map screenshot below.
At this location, you will see one of two things:
- A cutscene will play with Lae’zel trapped in a cage and two Tieflings trying to figure out what to do with her
- The dead bodies of two Tieflings and a broken cage
If you see the cutscene, then good news — you can still add Lae’zel to your party. She will break out of the cage, if you allow her to do so, and be free to join you.
However, if you see the dead Tieflings, then Lae’zel unfortunately already escaped and is somewhere else entirely. To avoid this scenario, you can’t take too many long rests before looking for her. My advice is to simply go there right after you land on the beach. Of course, if you didn’t know where Lae’zel was until it was too late, then you will have to wait until later in the story to add her to your party in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Where is Lae’zel after she escapes?
Players that got the second scenario, where Lae’zel was already gone and killed the Tieflings, will have to find her in another location. More specifically, you can find her traveling with a band of Githyankis near the Waukeen’s Rest waypoint, which is due west of The Risen Road waypoint in the northern part of the map.
You will know you’re in the right spot when you see a dragon fly overheard. Go to where the dragon lands after the cutscene players where the creature kills several soldiers. Here, you will be able to save Lae’zel from the Githyankis, but you will likely have to fight them to do so. If Lae’zel dies during this battle, you can revive her with a Revivify scroll or spell and then talk to her.
At this point, Lae’zel will agree to join your party in Baldur’s Gate 3 and she even offers where a cure for the parasite might be located.
