How to find and beat Astegon in Palworld and all rewards

If you have ventured into the volcano region on the far western side of the map in Palworld, you might have stumbled upon Alpha Astegon. This level 48 Dark and Dragon-type is a formidable opponent that shouldn’t be taken lightly, but it’s also not easy to physically locate on the map.

While you can see Alpha Astegon’s icon on your map, that’s not where it’s located above ground. Instead, that icon shows where you can find Alpha Astegon underground in a cave, meaning you need to find a separate entrance. In the guide below, I’ll go over where to find Alpha Astegon, how to beat it, and all of the possible rewards you get for doing so in Palworld.

Alpha Astegon location in Palworld

From Alpha Astegon’s icon on the map, you need to head east and down the cliff into the lava pool. Here, you’ll discover a secret mineshaft that is the entrance to Alpha Astegon’s cave. The entrance is called the “Destroyed Mineshaft” and it’s located past the lava, so I recommend bringing a flying mount with you to safely cross the terrain.

Once you find the entrance, go through the narrow path and you’ll eventually reach Alpha Astegon waiting for you in a cave.

How to beat Alpha Astegon in Palworld

After you find Alpha Astegon, you’ll want to send out an Ice-type Pal. Since Astegon is Dark and Dragon-type, Ice-type is your best bet to deal super effective damage. While you can also send out a Dragon-type, Astegon’s dual-typing makes those attacks not as strong.

You want to avoid using a Neutral or Dark-type Pal, as Astegon will absolutely shred through either one of those Pal types. You could also use Pals with Ice-type attacks, so long as they’re not one of the two types you want to avoid. Your Pals should also be roughly level 45-48, with anything lower likely not surviving long against Alpha Astegon.

As for your character, I suggest using an Assault Rifle, Pump-Action Shotgun, or Single-Shot Rifle. Alpha Astegon doesn’t have a ton of close-range attacks, so you can get closer to deal damage, but I would still back away when given the chance.

If you’re planning on capturing Alpha Astegon, you’re only real choice for a sphere is a Legendary Sphere. Anything less has an abysmal capture rate against the Alpha, but Ultra Spheres can get the job done with a little bit of luck.
