How to fast travel in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Don't waste your time walking everywhere

Given the overall size of the map of Hyrule in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it’s no wonder why so many players might be wondering about a fast travel system. After all, despite the map being beautiful, it’s a pain to continuously walk back and forth between different locations. This is especially evident in side quests, as many of them require you to visit the same location multiple times.

Fortunately for players, there are several different methods of fast travel in Tears of the Kingdom. Players can use this to their advantage, regardless of where they might be on the map or where they want to go. To see how to fast travel and all of the available methods in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, keep reading our guide below.

Using fast travel in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

From what we can tell, there are four different fast travel methods in Tears of the Kingdom. They are, in order of when you might encounter them, as follows:

  • Shrines
  • Skyview Towers
  • Lightroots
  • Travel Medallions

The Shrines are possibly the most common way that players will access the fast travel system. Whenever you visit a Shrine, you will have the option to fast travel back there. You can use the blue circles that are on the ground in front of each Shrine to fast travel to any previous Shrine on the map. This first opens up to you when are you exploring the Great Sky Island.

Other methods of fast travel include the Skyview Towers, which players can use to catapult themselves up into the air and then skydive to wherever they would like to go. It’s not a traditional fast travel method, but if you’re at a Skyview Tower and don’t want to take the long way down, you can use the tower’s teleporter to launch yourself into the air. The teleporter becomes available after interacting with the tower’s terminal.

Finally, you can use Travel Medallions and Lightroots to get around Hyrule quicker. Travel Medallions are unlocked after completing Robbie the Researcher’s questline and you use them by placing them onto the ground. From there on out, that spot will act as a fast travel destination. You can pick it back up and move it to another location as well. You only have three of them to use at a given time, though. To fast travel to a Travel Medallion point, simply open your map and select that point’s location.

As for Lightroots, you can use these in the Chasm section of the map. The Lightroots are glowing bulbs in the Chasm darkness that you can use interact with to register them as a fast travel point. While in the Chasm, you can open your map and fast travel back to any Lightroot you have previously discovered.

And there you have it, all of the ways you can fast travel in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
