When Season 4 of Apex Legends released, many fans were intrigued by Respawn’s weapon balancing changes. The developers altered quite a bit, including nerfing the R-99, buffing the Prowler, and messing around with the L-Star.
During Season 3, the L-Star was one of the least used up weapons in Apex Legends. It could only be found in supply crates but wasn’t that powerful anyway. However, with Season 4, Respawn switched things up regarding the energy LMG. Now, the general consensus is it’s one of the best weapons in the game. So, what’s the best way to use the L-Star?
Best strategies to use with the L-Star in Apex Legends
Earlier in the week, we claimed that the L-Star was among the top weapons you can use in Season 4. However, this was based solely on feel and the patch notes for the new season of Apex Legends. Now, a few days in, we can finally see some statistics to back this up.
According to TheGamingMerchant, the L-Star comes close to matching the Damage Per Second (DPS) of the R-99, which deals the highest DPS in Apex Legends. That said, the R-99 shoots far quicker, which only makes the L-Star that much more impressive. In terms of headshots, the two weapons deal the same DPS.
With such high damage and a magazine that never needs reloading, the L-Star should be picked up whenever you see it. Of course, any weapon is improved with a scope, so which one should you be using? Our suggestion is to use a 2x HCOG Classic Scope, which gives you clear visibility when firing. If you need to fight a long-range enemy, a 3x HCOG scope isn’t a bad option either.
Using a 2x scope gives you enough flexibility to fight both close and long-range enemies. However, if you are pairing the L-Star with a sniper rifle or Wingman, a 1x scope could also be viable. The iron sights of the L-Star aren’t that great, so a scope is always recommended.
