There are three different skill trees available to you in Spider-Man 2, but the largest one is the shared tree that applies to both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. On that tree, you can unlock a skill called Loop de Loop, which is an incredibly useful skill — but one that can be difficult to pull off.
Personally, I grappled with this skill for several minutes before actually getting it to work. The objective of Loop de Loop is to hold onto your web so you go in a circle, gain momentum, and then launch yourself forward at a much faster pace than normal. It looks amazing when done and can provide a huge boost to your traversal in Spider-Man 2.
The question you might have is, how exactly can you pull off Loop de Loop with consistency?
Doing a Loop de Loop in Spider-Man 2
First and foremost, Loop de Loop is the second skill you can acquire from the shared skill tree in Spider-Man 2. You unlock the skill trees upon reaching level 2 and Loop de Loop only costs one skill point.
If you read the skill description for Loop de Loop, you’ll see it simply says to dive and then hold R2 while diving. This sounds easy enough, but in practice, it can be slightly confusing. It took me several attempts to get the button combination correct.
You also have to dive from a high enough distance, as you need a good amount of momentum in your dive to successfully do a Loop de Loop. If you dive from a low distance, your character will just detach from their web and won’t go in a full circle.
Here are the steps you need to follow to perform a Loop de Loop in Spider-Man 2:
- First, either swing yourself far into the air or jump off of a tall building
- Tilt the left joystick down and make sure to also press and hold the L3 button while doing so. If you don’t hold L3, you won’t technically be diving
- With the left joystick tilted down and L3 being pressed, press and hold R2. I recommend starting to hold R2 closer to the ground if you’re high up in the air
- Keep holding those buttons until your character shoots a web and goes around in a circle. You can’t release the buttons too early, or else your character will detach from the web
The most important things to remember when doing a Loop de Loop is to dive from a high enough distance and hold the L3 and R2 buttons until you’re spinning in a circle. It might take some practice to get down consistently, but you should be able to get the hang of it rather quickly.
