There aren’t nearly as many options for armor compared to weapons in Elden Ring; It seems there’s a new weapon waiting for you to pick up around every corner in the Lands Between. Armor, on the other hand, is much more scarce, only coming in sets from merchants or available in pieces found on dead bodies. This means that your starting armor and something you find along the way will likely be with you for some time. Luckily, you don’t have to stick with the same appearance all the time, as Elden Ring offers the option to change a piece of armor.

Unfortunately, this option doesn’t apply to every piece of armor in the game. But, if you manage to find a piece that can be changed, you can alter its appearance anytime you visit a Site of Grace. Of course, this only applies if you’ve acquired two specific items in Elden Ring: the Tailoring Tools and Sewing Needle.

The Tailoring Tools and Sewing Needle are all you need to change a piece of armor’s look. Once you find them, you can visit a Site of Grace and pick the option that says “change appearance.” From here, you’ll see a menu where you can pay Runes to alter the look of your current armor, assuming it can be altered.

To find the Tailoring Tools and Sewing Needle, you’ll need to defeat the Demi-Human Chief bosses. These bosses are found in an underground cavern on the far western side of West Limgrave, the starting region of Elden Ring. You can go down to the beach on this side of the map and look alongside the cliffs until you see the Coastal Cave. This is right across from the large island in this region of the map.

Go through the cave until you reach the Demi-Human bosses. Defeat them both, ideally using the help from a summons, and they will reward you with the Tailoring Tools and Sewing Needle. You can actually keep going past the bosses to reach the Church of Dragon Communion island. This is where you can bring a Dragon Heart and exchange it for some exciting Incantations. Once you have the tools and needle, you can change the look of armor in Elden Ring.
