As gamers anxiously awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 earlier this week, a GTAForums user known as teapotuberhacker posted 90 videos from a test build of the game.
On Tuesday, footage started spreading online of the upcoming GTA game, including a playable character named Lucia robbing a waffle house and taking hostages in a Miami-looking city. The footage may all be several years old and line up with other GTA leaks over the past few years.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that the videos are authentic and feature a test build of Grand Theft Auto 6. According to the game publisher, the company experienced a “network intrusion,” meaning a third party illegally accessed and downloaded controversial information from their systems. This included early development footage for the new game.
“We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way,” Rockstar Games said in a statement. “Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations.”

Rockstar Games added it would update the gaming community in the near future as well as “properly” introduce them to the game when it’s ready.
It now appears that the hacker that released the GTA footage is the same one that targeted Uber, which explains the username on the forum. In a blog post, Uber said it believes the hacker is associated with a group called Lapsus$, which is known to target technology companies like Microsoft, Samsung, Cisco, and more in 2022 alone.
“There are also reports over the weekend that this same actor breached video game maker Rockstar Games,” Uber added.
Uber stated it is currently coordinating with the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice in an attempt to find the hacker responsible. Rockstar Games has not commented on any investigation of the alleged culprit.
