On Wednesday, developer Sony Santa Monica announced God of War Ragnarök is scheduled to launch Nov. 9. This release is for both PlayStation 4 and 5. To announce the release date, the developers also revealed a new cinematic trailer for fans to watch. The trailer didn’t consist of actual gameplay but the developers stated that it did contain some possible story elements.

While there could certainly still be a delay between now and November, this is the date that Sony Santa Monica will try and hit. They likely waited so long to announce a release date due to concerns over whether or not they could get it done by the end of 2022. With this announcement, they seem confident they can.

However, fans should still temper their expectations slightly, as it’s become increasingly rare to see a AAA title hit its initial release date.

From at least the cinematic trailer, though, God of War Ragnarök looks to be in fantastic shape. The graphics are gorgeous, the character models are crisp, and the environment looks deadly. Of course, things will likely look somewhat different in the full game but if the God of War reboot in 2018 was any indication, Ragnarök should be a game of the year candidate.

In addition to the release date reveal, the developers also showcased the various editions of the game. There are four editions, which are viewable for fans to see below.

  • Launch Edition: Comes with Kratos Risen Snow Armor and Atreus Risen Snow tunic
  • Digital Deluxe Edition: Comes with Dark Horse Digital Mini Artbook, Kratos Darkdale Armor, Atreus Darkdake Attire, Darkdale Blades Handles and Axe Grip, Avatar Set, PS4 Theme, Digital Soundtrack
  • Collector’s Edition: Custom game box called the Knowledge Keeper’s Shrine, Steelbook Display Case, 2 inch Vanir Twins Carvings, Dwarven Dice Set, 16 inch Mjölrnir Replica, Darkdale Armor, Attire, Axe Grip, and Handles, Digital Mini Artbook, PS4 Theme, Digital Soundtrack
  • Jötnar Edition: 7 inch Vinyl Record, Falcon, Bear, & Wolf Pin Set, Steelbook Display Case, Knowledge Keeper’s Shrine game box, 2 inch Vanir Twins Carvings, Legendary Draupnir Ring, Brok’s Dice Set, Yggdrasil Cloth Map, 16 inch Mjölnir Replica, Darkdale Armor, Attire, Axe Grip, and Handles, Digital Mini Artbook, PS4 Theme, Digital Soundtrack

That’s all of the information we have on God of War Ragnarök for right now. More details should emerge as we get closer to Nov. 9.
