The first official tournament for Apex Legends has been announced by FACEIT. Featuring 16 teams, this tournament will follow a Pro Series style format that spans eight events. The total grand prize money is $50,000.
This is big news for competitive Apex Legends, as the only tournaments so far have been online. However, many are concerned that the game is not esport-ready. There are numerous game-breaking glitches and bugs currently causing issues. That said, perhaps a LAN environment will help to mitigate these problems.
There are 14 teams signed up for this tournament, with two more to be added through FACEIT qualifiers. Let’s take a look at the list of known teams and discuss how these events will work.

The final two spots will be taken via online FACEIT qualifiers from the Apex Pro Discord. Some notable teams left out of the 14 confirmed are Denial Esports, Rogue, and Knights GG.
While many of these players deserve their spot, some in the community feel this was more about popularity than skill. A few of the players mentioned above are rarely seen playing Apex Legends anymore. While this might be in relation to the game’s state, FACEIT clearly wants this tournament filled with high-profile players.
How this tournament will work
Although FACEIT has yet to release the details of the Pro Series events, we can assume it will follow other battle royale esports. Respawn Entertainment will likely set up a private server for these events to take place on. These servers will then be filled with the professional teams.
There will likely be a scoring system based on both kills and final placement. Other battle royales like Fortnite and PUBG usually put more emphasis on placement, but Apex Legends could go a different route since the game is so fast-paced.
The first event in the Pro Series will start on Friday, May 31. Viewers can watch the event on the FACEIT Twitch channel. A location or time has yet to be announced. You can also keep up with all of the matches on FACEIT’s website.
