The reveal for Season 2 of Apex Legends officially launched earlier today. While there were a ton of announcements from Respawn at EA Play, something unofficial caught fans’ eyes. In a couple of screenshots, dragons can be seen flying around Kings Canyon.
Since around mid-March, leaks of dragons have surrounded Apex Legends. There are several screenshots where dragons are featured prominently, most notably this one of Octane.
However, though we have several images, nothing official has been said by Respawn or EA. So what role could dragons play and when can we expect to see them in-game?
How dragons can play a part in Apex Legends
While we currently don’t have any information about the dragons, we can make some educated guesses as to their role in Apex Legends. In this image from EA Play, we can clearly see winged creatures flying around the sky.

There appear to be several dragons flying around in the image above. They don’t seem to be doing anything in particular, though it is notable how many of them there are.
While these dragons could just be background fodder, like the Leviathans in the water, we think it’s more than that. One theory is that these dragons will act as a transportation method of some sort. Apex Legends has the balloons already, but with the fast-paced nature of the game, more transportation isn’t out of the question.
Another theory is that the dragons will be a mini supply drop system. They will deliver packages to certain areas of the map, similar to the ones already in-game. However, the supply drops from the dragons will only hold one or two items.
Either way, we will have to wait and see if Respawn makes an announcement about the mythical beings.
When will the dragons come into the game?
If the dragons are real, then we should see them fairly soon. EA obviously felt the need to tease them in their Season 2 reveal. It’s unlikely that they would tease something and not release it that same season.
However, if the dragons are simply taken out of context, it’s probable Respawn or EA will remain mute on the subject. Season 2 of Apex Legends launches on July 2, so we’ll have to wait and see if any dragons are featured.
