Shot by Both Sides is a Gig you can accept from Mr. Hands in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty that sees you travel to several different locations trying to protect a journalist named Bree. Bree has apparently gotten herself into major trouble after chasing down a story regarding Militech. The quest is fairly straightforward right up until the end, where you have to choose between Bree and a Militech agent named Dante in Cyberpunk 2077.
Together, you and Bree stumble upon evidence that Militech was poking its head into illegal areas, which is obviously a huge break for Bree’s story. However, shortly after finding this evidence, Militech agent Dante shows up, demanding that you hand over Bree to him. What should you do from here? Who deserves your loyalty?
Siding with Bree in Cyberpunk 2077
Let’s start with who you were hired to protect for this Gig.
If you choose to side with Bree and don’t let Dante take her, then you will have to kill Dante. After he’s dead, Bree leaves her iconic pistol, called Riskit, on a table, takes the evidence against Militech. and says she will run the story. Once she leaves, the Shot by Both Sides Gig is complete and a satisfied Mr. Hands rewards you with $5,000.Â
While this might seem like the end of the Gig, it’s not. After several hours have passed, you will receive a call from Mr. Hands. He says that Bree actually ended up selling the evidence against Militech to Netwatch. This causes Netwatch agents to come after you, as they don’t want any loose ends regarding how they obtained the evidence.
Bree essentially sells you out after you saved her life and now you have pesky Netwatch agents looking to take you out.
Siding with Dante in Cyberpunk 2077
On the other side of the Gig, you can decide to side with Dante. If you choose to hand Bree over to him, he will kill her where she stands and takes the evidence against Militech with him.
This will complete the Shot by Both Sides Gig, but Mr. Hands isn’t too happy that you got his client killed. You will still receive a reward, but it won’t be as much as if you had killed Dante and saved Bree.
Which side should you pick?
It’s difficult to say which side is the better option. On the one hand, killing Dante and saving Bree eventually means you will have Netwatch agents coming after you, but you also get a bigger reward from Mr. Hands in this scenario. If I could do this Gig again, I would let Dante kill Bree. After all, she does sell you out for an easy payday, and you still get paid from Mr. Hands even if Bree dies.
However, this choice is really in your hands, as there is no “best” option with Shot by Both Sides in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty.
