Cyberpunk 2077: At what point should you start Phantom Liberty?

Your starting point does make a difference

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty is an expansion that technically takes place during the middle of the game’s main story. It is not something that you can do after completing the main story because Phantom Liberty offers you an entirely new ending to the story once you’re done with it. As such, you might be asking yourself when is the best time to start Phantom Liberty in terms of the game’s timeline.

While there is no one true answer to that question, I do have some opinions on it after playing through the entirety of Phantom Liberty and seeing multiple endings. If you want to know when you should start playing through the Phantom Liberty quest line, check out the guide below.

When should you start Phantom Liberty in Cyberpunk 2077?

In short, Phantom Liberty is a completely new quest line that you can complete after reaching a certain point in the main story of Cyberpunk 2077. You need to complete a series of tasks on a checklist before gaining access to Phantom Liberty if you are starting over with a new save. However, if you’re already near the end of Cyberpunk 2077’s story, then you will be able to start Phantom Liberty right away.

To me, it makes the most sense to play through Phantom Liberty right before you’re set to go on the final mission in Cyberpunk 2077. I have a couple of reasons for this opinion, which are:

  • The story of Phantom Liberty feels like a proper send-off for Cyberpunk 2077, and it might feel strange to finish it and then return to the base game once again to complete other missions to reach the ending.
  • The endings you can get for Cyberpunk 2077 by completing Phantom Liberty can come right after you finish the expansion, so it’s a transition that makes sense.

While there is nothing wrong with playing through Phantom Liberty as soon as you can in Cyberpunk 2077, I feel like waiting until the end of the story, and then playing through the expansion is the best way to end your journey.
