Baldur’s Gate 3: How to get into the Karsus Vault in BG3

You need to follow a specific series of steps

The Sorcerous Sundries library holds some crucial answers about the Crown of Karsus and the Elder Brain in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you have Gale in your party, you will know exactly how important the library is to your journey. However, even if you don’t have Gale, you can still go through the library and try to find the answers you’re looking for. The main item you’re looking for in Sorcerous Sundries is The Annals of Karsus book, which lies in the Karsus Vault in BG3.

The Annals of Karsus will progress Gale’s Wizard of Waterdeep questline, but it’s also a great book to have in general, as it gives you some knowledge about the Crown of Karsus. The Karsus Vault lies in the deepest part of Sorcerous Sundries, and getting to it is a real challenge in BG3. Below, you can see exactly how to reach and get into it.

Getting into the librarian’s office in BG3

For starters, you need to speak to the librarian named Tonla Tome-Monger at the back of the library on the first floor. She will say that The Annals of Karsus is at the library, but it’s only reachable through her office. Head upstairs and take a left to find the door to Tome-Monger’s office. However, if you try to enter, a guard will stop you.

To get around the guard, split up your party and have one character speak to the guard while another character, preferably your stealthiest one, can sneak around to the office door and unlock it. Repeat this process for all of your party until you are left with one party member. You can choose to leave them outside of the office if you want, as you don’t need your entire party for the next section.

In the office, make sure you close the door behind you and pick up the Sorcerous Sundries Basement Chest Key and then click on the bookcase in the corner of the office. This opens up a portal to the vault, which you can enter to travel to the basement. Before leaving, though, pick up the key inside of the bookcase.

After traveling through the portal, you will find yourself in the vault. Keep traveling forward to reveal a door called “Silverhand.” You now need to follow a specific series of steps to enter the Karsus Vault.
