Apex Legends PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions to come ‘very soon’

Currently, next-gen consoles must run PS4 and Xbox One software

According to reports from VG247 and PlayStation Universe, Apex Legends Game Director Steven Ferreira revealed — in a recent media preview event for Season 12: Defiance, which releases on Feb. 8 — that news on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Apex Legends will come “very, very soon.”

Currently, Apex Legends is playable on both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but only with the PS4 and Xbox One software. Players have complained about the lack of 120 FPS support and high input latency when playing on next-gen consoles. These are issues that could be fixed by releasing a version of the game native to those consoles. Of those that offer the game, the next-gen consoles are the only ones, as of yet, without a dedicated port.

In the statement, Ferreira also specified that features for the new ports would not be released all at once, but gradually over time. Ferreira went on to say that there are plans for new features to be added “pretty much every season this year.” With Season 12: Defiance coming out on Feb. 8, there’s a high chance that good news for next-gen console users could come in just a few days.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports aren’t the only new Apex Legends ports on the way. Respawn Entertainment recently announced the soft launch of Apex Legends Mobile, which could signify a mid or late 2022 release for the unique mobile port. Not much is known currently about how Apex Legends Mobile will play out, but images from the Google Play store have allowed us to glimpse how the game will look along with the limited playable roster.
