It’s only been a couple of days since Update 1.2 buffed Mirage’s cloaking ability, and the Apex Legends community is loving the new and bamboozlier legend. While the patch notes described it as a “bug fix,” this is exactly what people have been asking for. Since launch, Mirage players have wanted Mirage to be completely invisible when cloaked.
Their wish has been granted, and it’s making for some surprisingly effective plays — with “surprising” being the key word. The improved invisibility might ironically result in Mirage being seen much more in Kings Canyon, as more players give the legend a try. Of all the changes introduced by Update 1.2, this one is parti… perta… per-taco… pertical… It’s really good!
It’s also interesting to consider that this may have been how Mirage was always intended to be. This was a bug fix, after all. Either way, Mirage mains have enjoyed the change quite a bit. And who knows, we might get some new John Cena-type memes out of it!
Bug fix + bug combo
The complete cloaking is made much more terrifying by another Mirage innovation. Players recently discovered that if Mirage uses his ultimate while passing through a Wraith portal or riding a zipline, he gets to keep his weapon out. This effect is unintended, and until patched it combines really effective with the buff.
It’s too early to see what the rest of the community’s final verdict will be. It’s safe to say it can go one of two ways. Players may learn to look for visual cues and listen for Mirage’s ghostly footsteps, eventually adjusting to the buff. Or they can band around the idea that the buff was too much, much like when Pathfinder’s hitbox was fixed in the March update. The Apex Legends community does tend to jump from praise to pitchforks at the drop of a hat.
