343 Industries delays Halo Infinite co-op

The anticipated mode will not release at the start of Season 2 as planned

Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries has announced that the game’s Campaign co-op mode will not release at the start of Season 2 as previously planned. The developer shared the news in an update on the official Halo Waypoint blog, stating that it was still “aiming to deliver Campaign network co-op later in Season 2.”

In the blog post, 343 goes on to outline the reasons for the delay. Halo Infinite’s co-op mode is set to feature four-person online co-op and two-person local co-op, the latter of which will be in split-screen. The open-world nature of Halo Infinite’s gameplay is the main roadblock in development so far. 343 also specifically mentioned that trying to implement split-screen on Xbox consoles has presented “some big challenges.”

Campaign co-op is a long-running feature of the Halo series and is considered a core part of its gameplay. Halo Infinite was initially criticized for not including the feature at launch. With the further delay, it seems like players will have to wait a bit longer to be able to enjoy it.

Halo Infinite Season 2 is set to launch on May 3. The season’s theme will be Lone Wolves, which 343 describes as “a core idea that guides the creation of much, but not all, of a Season’s content.” Two of said Lone Wolves are Spartans Sigrid Eklund and Hieu Dinh. They will be featured in Season 2’s story alongside Spartan Commander Laurette Agryna, who was introduced in Season 1.
