There are hundreds of potential spaceships for you to own in Starfield. Whether you are gifted a ship, steal it, or buy a brand new one from a vendor, your fleet will likely start to fill up quite quickly. Of course, throughout Starfield, you are undoubtedly going to be on the lookout for the absolute best ship, and while there are arguments for all sorts of ships, our vote for the best goes to the Narwhal.
The Narwhal is a C-class ship that has some outstanding statistics and default traits. You can take seven crew members on board the ship as well as hold over 2,000 cargo, in addition to gaining a high top speed and devastatingly strong weapons. Of course, before you can start wondering how you will use the Narwhal, you need to know where it is, how to get it, and what price you need to pay.
Starfield – How to acquire the Narwhal ship
You can buy the Narwhal from a vendor in the city on Neon, which is on the planet Volii Alpha in the Volii system. Specifically, you need to go into Ryujin Tower at the far end of the Neon Core street and use the elevator to reach the Taiyo Astroneering floor.
In Taiyo Astroneering, make your way to the showroom and speak to Veronica Young. She will show you her selection of ships and the last one in the fleet is the Narwhal.
Narwhal price, stats, and requirements
The Narwhal will cost you a whopping 423,946 credits, which is no small number any way you look at it. You wouldn’t buy this ship in the early game of Starfield, to say the least.

However, for the price, you’re getting the following stats:
- Crew: 7
- Jump: 30 Light Years
- Shield: 995
- Hull: 2,118
- Fuel: 560
- Cargo Capacity: 1,760
- Reactor: 36
As previously stated, though, the Narwhal is a C-class ship, meaning that you cannot fly it until you reach Rank 4 of your Piloting skill in Starfield. This skill is found within the “Tech” section of your skill tree menu. If you’re not Rank 4 in Piloting, you will not be able to fly the Narwhal, even if you buy it.
I would personally wait until around the mid-game of Starfield to even consider buying the Narwhal. This is considered an endgame type of ship, so I suggest waiting until you have around 500,000 credits and have reached Rank 4 in Piloting. This ensures you can fly the ship right away and allows you to have some extra credits after purchasing it. You might also want to consider saving some credits for ship renovations, as I spent several thousand credits to upgrade the Narwhal’s cargo capacity after I bought it.
Either way, though, you now know everything there is to know about the Narwhal ship in Starfield.
