After you awake from your chamber in Enshrouded and speak with the Flame, you are given the task of constructing your very own Flame Altar out in the world of Embervale. However, before you can construct the object, you need four Stone, which can be difficult to find if you don’t know what you’re looking for in Enshrouded.
Stone is a common resource once you understand how to find it. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t offer anything in the way of a tutorial or even a hint of where Stone is acquired. In this guide, I’ll go over exactly how you can find Stone in Enshrouded so you can get to building your Flame Altar.
Where to find Stone in Enshrouded
If you’re like me, then you likely spent some time hitting stone objects with a weapon in the hopes that the Stone resource would fall as a result. That’s not the way to go about getting it, though.
Instead, you need to find large gray stones in the grass right near the first quest marker on your map. If you go a little past the quest marker to the north, you’ll find a ton of gray stones on the ground. There are slightly smaller and bigger stones scattered around, but you’re looking for the smaller ones. You’ll know you have the right-sized stone if it says “Collect” when you get near it. The larger stones can only be collected once you acquire the Pickaxe.
For the smaller stones, press “E” to collect the resource and it will be added to your inventory. Repeat that process until you have enough for a Flame Altar.
Building the Flame Altar in Enshrouded
Once you have the necessary amount of Stone, you can press “V” to go into the Crafting menu. Here, select the Flame Altar at the top of the menu and find a place to put it down. The location you choose for your Flame Altar will determine the area where you can build a base, so make sure it’s centrally located and in a relatively open space.
I chose to place my first Flame Altar exactly where the quest marker said to, and it worked out fine for the early stages of the game. However, as you progress, you can build more Flame Altars in new locations, so it’s not too important either way.

After your Flame Altar is built, you can commune with it and receive a new quest and objective. That’s everything you need to know about finding Stone and building your first Flame Altar in Enshrouded.
