Baldur’s Gate 3: How to complete Investigate the Suspicious Toys in BG3

Find the monster who would put a bomb in a toy

Investigate the Suspicious Toys is a side quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 that you can pick up right at the start of Act 3. In the town of Rivington, you can find an altercation going on outside of a mansion. It seems that a refugee family has moved into a man’s home when he wasn’t there.

Regardless of what you do in that situation, you will be able to enter the home of Arfur Gregorio, the man who was fighting with the family. The inside of the home isn’t too interesting aside from the hatch in the kitchen. Going down in the hatch reveals that Gregorio is responsible for placing bombs in a box of toys that were sent to the refugee camp in Rivington.

To stop the bombs from going off, you need to investigate the toys and find out who’s really responsible for the attack in Baldur’s Gate 3.

After you discover that the toys have been booby-trapped with bombs, you need to head to the barn where the refugee supplies are being held. This is located to the southeast of Arfur’s Mansion in Rivington.

At the barn, you need to convince the Flaming Fist guard to let you in by saying you want to drop off a donation yourself. This requires a check and allows you to search the entire barn. You will find the toys on the lefthand side of the barn in the back corner. A perception check will roll that highlights the box if it’s passed. You need to pass this check for the quest to continue, so reload a save if necessary.

From here, all you need to do is disarm the box using a Trap Disarm Toolkit. Have your best Sleight of Hand character do the honors (for me it was Astarion). Once the trap is disarmed, you will be able to alert the head guard and he will tell you to find out who is responsible for trying to blow up the toys.

Your first stop in the investigation will be to find and talk to Arfur Gregorio at Sharess’ Caress, which is found at the South Span of Wrym’s Crossing waypoint to the north of Rivington. Arfur is located on the first floor through some red curtains on the south side.

Speak to Arfur and tell him that you know of his plans to blow up the toys. He will say he was blackmailed and that he got his explosives from shady characters at the Felogyr’s Fireworks shop in the Lower City. This shop is located south of Sorcerous Sundries and right next to the Heapside Strand waypoint in the Lower City.

Inside, you can mutter a secret passcode that Gregorio gave you, which will give you admittance to the second floor. Here, you can speak to two characters that are selling smokepowder bombs. Although, one of the characters is a guard that is blocking the way to the top floor, where they are making the bombs.

The only way this really ends is by killing everyone in the fireworks shop, as you can’t get to the third floor without starting combat. The easiest way I found of dealing with everyone on the top floor is to blow up the barrels of smokepowder, which causes a massive chain reaction of explosions.

Once everyone in the shop is deceased, you will have completed Investigate the Suspicious Toys, as the bombmakers are dead and won’t be distributing them any longer.
