VSFighting: Europe’s premier FGC event strikes this weekend

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Off the back of Combo Breaker 2018, the Capcom Pro Tour will make a stop in the UK for VSFighting 2018. From humble beginnings, first taking place at the local Irish Club in 2012, VSFighting has come a long way. Recently recognised as a Capcom Premier Event, the tournament is this year set to rock Birmingham’s Millenium Point. Come Saturday, 223 Street Fighter V competitors will descend on the complex, including the top 2 ranked players, Tokido and Infiltration. Accordingly, FGC enthusiasts can expect fireworks and maybe even a few upsets to the top brackets.

The VSFighting tournament follows a double elimination format across all games, meaning players will only be eliminated after losing two sets. Pools begin at 10 a.m. BST on Saturday, with the Top 32 playoffs later in the afternoon. On Sunday the Top 8 competition begins at 5 p.m. BST. All the action can be caught on Capcom’s Twitch channel, and you’ll be able to find a recap of the action here on Monday.

Other FGC titles played at the event will include the following:

Tekken 7
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late[st]
BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Guilty Gear XRD: Rev 2
Injustice 2

Details of the full schedule of games, time zone adjustments, and where you can watch can be found via the Twitch Esports Twitter page.

This is the second year VSFighting has been staged at Millenium Point. Following the 2017 event, Electronic Dojo–the community organisation behind VSFighting–promised some upgrades on last year’s tournament experience. For those attending this year, improvements have been announced to seating, viewing, general spaces, and food outlet options. Subsequently, it should be a great weekend for gaming enthusiasts lucky enough to be going!
