Tilted Towers and Retail Row being destroyed in Fortnite Season 9?

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

The season of leaks is officially upon us. Data-miners went into the Fortnite v8.50 update files this morning and found mountains of information regarding Season 9. Among this data was never-before-seen images of destroyed points of interest. Namely, fan-favorite locations Tilted Towers and Retail Row.

Data-miner @FortTory was able to find several leaked images of these locations after a volcano eruption. Of course, the volcano is at the center of an in-game event that will presumably occur within the next week.

So will the volcano really take out Tilted Towers and Retail Row?

Third time’s the charm?

This possibility is nothing new to Fortnite, especially concerning Tilted Towers. Since Season 3, the controversial location has been under threat of destruction at least twice. Whether it be from the Season 3 meteor or the rocket in Season 4, Tilted is always at the center of these in-game events.

Back in the early seasons of Fortnite, Tilted Towers was an extremely disputed location. In most games, nearly a quarter of the lobby would land there and make the rest of the game slow-paced and dull at times. This reason alone made fans think Epic Games wanted to get rid of it.

However, even though many guessed Tilted would be demolished in these events, it still stands. Although, this leak is different in the fact that there are actual images.

If that isn’t proof enough, then nothing is. Epic Games obviously feels it’s time for a change, and Fortnite definitely needs it. Tilted Towers is always going to be one of the most memorable things about Fortnite, but like Greasy Grove and Dusty Depot, its time is up.

An original location destroyed?

While Tilted has been under threat multiple times, Retail Row has not. An original location from the Day 1 version of the game, Retail has been a popular POI for many seasons. Although, there aren’t many locations left that haven’t been touched by an event.

Greasy Grove, Dusty Depot, and Anarchy Acres are all original spots that have been changed dramatically. Retail Row is among the very few left that has barely changed. However, according to FortTory and more leaked images, this will change with Season 9.

What’s going to destroy them?

It has long been thought that the Season 8 volcano will explode at some point. The recent activity with the runes supports this, as the volcano began to smoke shortly after the runes appeared.

So, it is safe to assume the runes will trigger the volcano in some way. Once this happens, the volcano eruption will presumably launch lava and magma rocks all over the island. According to these leaks though, at least a few of these rocks will find their way to Tilted Towers and Retail Row.

While something else could happen with the volcano, the runes are almost definitely tied in somehow. It seems as though a new rune is doing something different to the map every day, so we won’t have to wait much longer.

The only question that remains is, when will this event take place?
