MLB The Show 22 has new cross-platform competitive modes coming to this year’s release. A new 2v2 and 3v3 online game mode will allow players to use their favorite MLB teams to play against others. Players can also access this game mode in the Diamond Dynasty, an “Ultimate Team” game mode, where they can combine their cards with friends to prove that they are the best in the game.

These new co-op games modes will be available for everyone with an internet connection and, most importantly, players can play with friends or family that have the game on any console. There are no restrictions in the cross-platform aspect of co-op play.

These new modes could potentially see new esports competitions open up for players in 2022, similar to how NBA 2k has embraced their co-op game modes in its esports scene.

San Diego Studio also announced an open technical test set to begin on Thursday to stress test the servers, online match-making, cross-platform play and online co-op. The technical test does not require any sign and will be available for the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. A pre-download will be available in all corresponding online stores starting on Wednesday. The test will run until Feb. 23. SDS also announced that streaming and sharing screenshots will be accepted as long as the user indicates that this is from the test and not representative of the final product.

MLB the Show 22 will be released on April 5, with new features being shared weekly leading up to the release. Players can get access to the game four days earlier on April 1 by pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition or MVP edition.
