Free-to-play massively multiplayer online role playing game Lost Ark has passed the one million concurrent players mark, only the fifth ever Steam game to do so. Its popularity of this game has led to many new fans to download the game for its launch on Feb. 11. Now, only one full day after its launch, Lost Ark is already among some of the most successful games atop the Steam concurrent players ranking.
A new MMORPG spikes on Steam
Lost Ark’s action MMORPG focus has brought a lot of fans to this new game, hitting records on Twitch as well. The game’s popularity in Korea is now spreading all over the world.
Only four other games have hit one million concurrent players on Steam: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, CounterStrike: Global Offensive, DOTA 2 and Cyberpunk 2077.
The most impressive stat coming out of this is that Lost Ark is second in all-time peak players on Steam. At around 1.33 million players, the only game that has peaked higher was PUBG at just over 3.25 million. If you narrow down the game genre, Lost Ark is first for multiplayer RPG games for concurrent players on Steam. However, Cyberpunk 2077 still holds the record for highest peak players for a single-player RPG.
A potential new frontrunner
Lost Ark’s focus on taking the best from old MMOs while still avoiding pitfalls like pay-to-win has been a path for success for it. This spike of players within days of official release is a sign that MMOs are still something fans search for. From the multiple classes to play and learn to a fun combat system, Lost Ark is starting strong. So strong that the Steam record of 3.25 million concurrent players might get passed by a fresh new MMO. Only time will tell if that record will stand, but Lost Ark is already in elite company.
