There are several different ways you can upgrade your weapons and gear in Diablo 4. From the standard upgrading practice that goes on at a Blacksmith’s shop to more advanced upgrading at The Occulist, your gear does not have to stay the same whatsoever. We have already done guides on acquiring Baleful Fragments and Coiling Ward, which are two materials needed to upgrade legendary items.
However, those materials could be considered common to find compared to Fiend Rose, which is an even rarer resource in Diablo 4.
Fiend Rose has one primary use in Diablo 4, which is to replace and add affixes to your gear. This is done at The Occulist under the “Enchant Item” tab (the last one on the right at the top of the screen). Here, if you are looking to replace an affix on a legendary piece of gear, you will need some Veiled Crystals and one Fiend Rose.
However, you have likely never come across a Fiend Rose during your time in Sanctuary yet. Allow me to fully explain how to acquire this rare flower.
Finding Fiend Rose in Diablo 4
If you’re like me, then you might have spent hours looking around the map trying to find at least one Fiend Rose. Don’t waste your time, though, as this particular crafting material cannot be found until the post-game of Diablo 4. I didn’t learn that until actually getting to the endgame, so if you’re still in the early portion of Diablo 4, you’re ahead of the curve.
As of now, you can only acquire a Fiend Rose by chopping down plants during a Helltide event. Helltide events are only for players that have completed the main story and find themselves in the endgame. The endgame allows players to unlock World Tier 3 and 4 and complete new quests and events, with Helltide being one of them.
During the Helltide events, players can chop down plants they find throughout the area. In addition to that, players can also search Helltide chests, but the spawn rate for them in chests is not great. The game will announce when and where a Helltide event is taking place, so you will have to wait for them to appear.
Essentially, if you are looking to replace an affix on a legendary piece of gear in Diablo 4, you will need to wait until the endgame. Fiend Roses are not required if you want to replace an affix on a rare or magic item, however. Once you have acquired a Fiend Rose, you can head to The Occulist and choose which affix to replace and what stat boost to replace it with.
