How to cross the broken rails on Great Sky Island in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

One of your first hurdles in Hyrule

Your first primary quest in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be on Great Sky Island. Here, you must visit and complete three different Shrines and all of them can be somewhat difficult to reach. Though the Ice Mountain Shrine might be the most arduous to visit early on, there is another that requires you to cross broken rails in Tears of the Kingdom.

The broken rails section will come as you are in between your second and third Shrines on Great Sky Island. This is after you go through the Mining Cave and are able to access the Zonai Device and mining carts for the first time. As you are riding the mining carts to go from one island to the other, you will come across a set of broken rails that are seemingly impossible to get across.

If you’re like me and don’t want to spend hours trying to figure this section out, you can check out the guide below to see exactly how to cross the rails.

Cross the broken rails in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Instead of falling to your death by trying to cross the broken rails with your cart, you will simply need to do some mild engineering. On the grassy section with the large rock where you are standing on before the broken rails section, there is a large, metal hook. Using the Ultrahand, you can pick up this hook and attach it to the center of the mine cart. Then use the Ultrahand again to attach the Zonai Fan to the back of the cart.

From here, all that’s left to do is take the mine cart and use the hook to attach it to the rails. You want to attach the cart to the rail that goes all the way to the other island and not on the broken rail. You can now hop in the mine cart, swing at the Zonai Fan to get it running, and then you’ll be on your way to the next Shrine in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
