The Pokémon Company hosted a Pokémon Presents in celebration of Pokémon Day, revealing lots of new information about upcoming games, series and other new content. This included more information about the long-anticipated Pokémon Sleep and the downloadable content for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
In addition, the trailer revealed two brand new Paradox Pokémon, Walking Wake and Iron Leaves. Like other Paradox Pokémon, these two are version exclusives, with one sporting an ancient aesthetic and the other having a futuristic look.
Here’s how to catch Walking Wake in Pokémon Scarlet.
What is Walking Wake?
Walking Wake is a new Water/Dragon-type Pokémon coming to Pokémon Scarlet. It appears to be an ancient relative of Suicune, a Legendary Pokémon from Johto. This monster is dauntingly large, standing at 11 feet, 6 inches and weighing 617.3 pounds.

It also learns a brand new signature move called Hydro Steam. This special Water-type attack has a modest 80 base power that increases to 120 when harsh sunlight is in effect. Fittingly, Hydro Steam ignores the normal drop in power that other Water-type moves experience in the sun.
Like other Paradox Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet, Walking Wake has Protosynthesis as its Ability. This Ability increases the user’s strongest stat when harsh sunlight is in effect or when the user is holding a Booster Energy. In Walking Wake’s case, this means its 125 base Special Attack stat becomes even higher in the sun. Between Protosynthesis and Hydro Steam, Walking Wake is a rare example of a Water-type that could thrive on a sun team.
How to catch Walking Wake in Pokémon Scarlet
Walking Wake will be available to catch in Pokémon Scarlet during an ongoing Tera Raid Battle event. It will share the spotlight with Iron Leaves, with both being available to battle from February 27 to March 12. If trainers defeat either Pokémon, which will appear at level 75, they will be able to capture and add the Paradox Pokémon to their teams.

Walking Wake will have Water as its Tera type during this raid, meaning trainers won’t need to think about its secondary Dragon-type on the defensive end. However, they should also note that its Water-type moves will deal massive damage due to the extra same-type attack bonus. During the raid, Walking Wake will have five moves at its disposal: Hydro Steam, Dragon Pulse, Flamethrower, Noble Roar and Sunny Day.
Azumarill is one of the safest counters players should consider bringing to this raid. This is because Azumarill resists or is immune to every attack the Walking Wake has. The only downside is that Azumarill does not have a strong super-effective move against the Terastallized Walking Wake unless it chooses to Terastallize into a Grass or Electric-type itself and then use Tera Blast. However, doing so would get rid of Azumarill’s defensive utility, so it is not recommended.
Even so, Azumarill should be able to safely set up a Belly Drum, sacrificing half of its health in order to maximize its Attack stat. Afterward, it can launch powerful STAB Play Roughs and should be able to outpace the Walking Wake in terms of damage output.
