Azumarill got an additional boost in popularity in Generation 6, when it became a dual Water/Fairy-type. Now, the Pokémon has a lot of potential whether you plan on using it competitively or in a regular playthrough. Regardless of how you intend to play, here’s the best Nature for Azumarill in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

In Pokémon games, each monster has an inherent trait called a Nature that boosts one of their stats while lowering another (or, in some cases, has no effect on their stats). For a normal playthrough, a Pokémon’s Nature isn’t of paramount importance. Still, it can be helpful to catch a Pokémon with a Nature that complements its existing stats and move pool.

The best Nature for Azumarill in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the Adamant Nature. All Adamant Pokémon gain an increase to their Attack state in exchange for a drop in their Special Attack stat. Unlike most other Water-types, Azumarill prefers to run exclusively physical moves. As a result, its lowered Special Attack stat should have no effect while it is in battle.

It is important to note that the Adamant Nature works best on an Azumarill with Huge Power. This Ability doubles its Attack stat, transforming it from a fairly weak physical attacker to an outright powerhouse. As a result, Huge Power is the Ability of choice for Azumarill rather than Thick Fat or Sap Sipper.

If you find an Azumarill with the best possible Nature in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you’ll naturally want to teach it all physical attacks. These include strong moves that grant it a same-type attack bonus, such as Liquidation and Play Rough.

Azumarill can also learn a new physical Ice-type move called Ice Spinner. This attack clears terrain and can help Azumarill protect itself against Grass-types. For its final move slot, Azumarill can run Superpower to hit Steel-types for super effective damage.

Conversely, Azumarill could benefit by running Aqua Jet as a secondary STAB Water-type move. Since Azumarill is quite slow, the extra priority of Aqua Jet can help it pick off weakened Pokémon that are faster than it without taking additional damage.
