How to lower disease in Frostpunk 2 reliably

Disease in Frostpunk 2 can become a serious problem if not handled correctly. Rampant disease can take a toll on your available workforce and make progression through the game quite difficult — you need a healthy workforce to prosper.

How to decrease disease in Frostpunk 2

You can lower or decrease disease in Frostpunk 2 by implementing laws, researching and building new buildings, or by exploring the Frostlands and finding outposts that, when utilized, will lower disease among your population.

For this guide, I’ll explore the first two methods, since the final method is party luck. You don’t want to fund a huge expedition if there’s only a chance to decrease disease in your city. So let’s check out those reliable ways to lower disease in Frostpunk 2.

How to decrease disease by implementing laws in Frostpunk 2

First, click on your Council button near the lower left-hand corner of your screen, then navigate to the City tab.

From here, click on Contagion Prevention. Here are some options that will allow you to decrease disease in you city, namely Supported Quarantine and Infectious Badge.

Which one you go with will depend on whether you have available housing. If you do, you can opt for Supported Qurantine, which will lower disease in return for additional housing. The Infectious Badge also decreases disease, but not by as much. You’ll also see rising tension as a result of this law.

I used the Infectious Badge for a while, just to get the disease down long enough so that we could build additional treatment buildings like Hospitals (covered in the next section).

Another reliable law that will help to decrease disease is the Harvesting Funerals law. This can be found in the Society tab under the Funerals law. Your two options are Harvesting Funerals or Ceremonial Funerals.

Ceremonial Funerals will decrease trust loss when people in your city die, but Harvesting Funerals will both increase research speed and decrease disease in your city. It’s almost a no-brainer. Almost.

How to decrease disease by using research and buildings in Frostpunk 2

If you choose this route, click on your Idea Tree and then navigate to the Society tab. The bottom-left branch from the center of this screen offers options to lower disease, including Hospitals and Treatment.

When you research these options, you’ll be able to build hospitals and treatment centers which will reduce your overall disease rates in the city. To build a hospital to lower disease, click on Buildings, then Housing, and choose Hospital from the menu.

Place the Hospital inside of an expanded housing district for it to take effect. You can also build a Recovery Hospital, which also aids population growth.

Finally, you can research either Experimental Treatment, which will give you a slight increase to research speed as well, or you can opt for Conservative Treatment, which will decrease disease more, but not aid research speed.

How to decrease disease in Frostpunk 2: a practical test

I’m going to take it a step further. Let’s see if these theories above actually work. For this test, I started with 887 ill people in my city, about half of which were diseased. So the goal here would be to reduce that number by half, proving that we can effectively reduce disease in Frostpunk 2.

So here’s what I did. I built two hospitals, since I didn’t have any yet. Then I also passed the Supported Quarantine law, which should help us a little more. After these changes, I did nothing else but wait. Sure enough, a few weeks later, we had just about halved that number, with only 482 ill people remaining, all of which were injured and not sick.
