Galentines Games VALORANT tournament holds finals on Valentines Day

Moon Raccoons, Shopify Rebels, Polaris and Dignitas will compete in the semifinals Thursday and Sunday

Super League Arena is hosting another VALORANT tournament over Valentines Day weekend, the Galentines Games VALORANT tournament. The event, which is already underway, features eight invited teams from North America who are all-women, female-identifying or non-binary. The tournament’s next match, unsigned squad Polaris vs. Dignitas, begins Thursday at 8 p.m. EST. The two teams will compete in the semifinal for a chance at the lion’s share of the $10,000 prize pool.

The other semifinal match is Moon Raccoons Black vs. Shopify Rebellion and will take place on Galentines Day, the day before Valentines Day. The “holiday” is defined in Urban Dictionary as “when you celebrate your love for your lady friends! single or no.”

The tournament began Feb. 5 with Polaris against fellow unsigned squad AIMPUNCH. Other teams invited to the tournament included Man I Love Fwogs, Complexity GX3 and Serenity Purple. The four teams out of the tournament did not receive any of the prize pool, as the four remaining fight for the top slice of cash. According to a press release from Super League Arena, the tournament is designed to “inspire a positive and constructive outlook for the future — all while some of the best of the best players compete in thrilling gameplay.”

The last time fans saw the remaining teams, outside of Moon Raccoons Black, in the same tournament together was in 2021 at the VALORANT Champions Tour Game Changers Series 3 tournament. At the event, Shopify made it the farthest, defeating Dignitas 2-0 in the lower bracket to make the grand finals where they lost to Cloud9 White.

Shopify and Dignitas are the most practiced teams left in the event. They both recently played in the Nerd Street Gamers Winter Championship qualifiers, and group stage and playoffs in the case of Shopify. Shopify is also the only team still in the tournament that competed in both VCT Challengers open brackets for a chance to play in the upcoming North American league.
