The hits seem to keep on coming for Season 9 of Fortnite. Already facing a multitude of other issues, most notably the broken Combat Shotgun, another problem has surfaced. However, this issue is a bit bigger than simply tweaking a weapon.

Over the past few days, a flurry of reports has come in from console players. PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch all seem to be plagued by the same issues. These range from insane lag spikes to textures not rendering to glitches galore around the map. While the glitches may not be exclusive to consoles, it seems as though the lag spikes and texture losses are.

Not the first problem for Season 9

If you’ve been paying any attention to Fortnite since Thursday, you know that Season 9’s launch has been rocky. While the Battle Pass rewards and cosmetics are decent, the actual gameplay is not. Setting aside the removal of the Pump Shotgun, there are some glaring problems with the game. From all of the map changes to the late-game Slipstream issue, Fortnite is in a rough state currently.

However, it seems for console players, these issues are amplified. There have been hundreds, maybe thousands, of console players complaining about the game since Season 9.

Fortnite Season 9 lag complaints

An outcry from the console community

While there’s been no official response from Epic Games, it’s clear what’s causing some of these problems. The introduction of Season 9 to Fortnite brought a slew of map changes and new, vibrant colors to match the futuristic theme. With these additions, it seems as though normal consoles are having a hard time handling all the extra textures.

This inefficiency is resulting in clips like the one below:

With the console’s limited capabilities, at least for standard versions, Fortnite‘s textures aren’t rendering quickly enough. In addition to this, console players are also complaining about incessant lag spikes.

While some individuals’ Internet speeds are no doubt to blame, it’s not a coincidence that a plethora of users has experienced the same dilemma. The texture loss is easy to pinpoint, though the lag spikes are more difficult. It could be a whole myriad of factors.

Regardless of how these issues originated, Epic Games needs to fix them in a hurry. They have a mountain of issues already piled up, though. Hopefully, console players will see a resolution later rather than much later.
