EA postpones Apex Legends, FIFA 20 live events due to COVID-19

American video game company Electronic Arts (EA) published a statement regarding their upcoming competitive gaming events. This update informed viewers and players about their plans as the global COVID-19 situation worsens. Additionally, they share a FAQ section to let fans know more information about future dates and refunds. The two EA games impacted by the COVID-19 are Apex Legends and FIFA 20. Some events listed on the statement are the Apex Legends Global Series and the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series. EA explains while some events are being canceled, they have postponed others. Similar to other events impacted by COVID-19, EA prioritized the safety and health of its organizers and players. “These decisions haven’t come easy … We believe that making these changes are in the best interest of protecting the health of the community, including competitors, attendees, and staff.” Additionally, the events will be updated according to the results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO).

Moreover, EA posted a FAQ section to help ease the minds of its viewers. The cancellation of future events will update as the CDC releases more information about the global situation. EA also shared they will refund all tickets spent by fans to attend the canceled live events. In regards to player reimbursement, they have not fully detailed their plan but did share some insight. “We will now put our focus towards the financial implications on our community and we’ll update you how we plan to address as soon as we can.”
