Melanin Gamers is a gaming community that started almost three years ago with the goal of promoting inclusion and diversity in the gaming industry. Since then, it has become and continues to be one of the most prominent platforms for Black gamers in London. So, it’s not surprising that EA would partner with them to sponsor this event in honor of the UK’s Black History Month.

“We are really grateful to EA for all their support in helping us put this tournament together,” said Melanin Gamers founder Annabel Ashalley-Anthony in a press release.

MG’s All Black Apex event is invite only. Black streamers from around the world were asked to be Captains for the event, which seeks to highlight the many excellent Black Apex players around the world and showcase these players’ joy while playing.

“I believe that this event is necessary as we really wanted to showcase and promote Black Apex players, especially up-and-coming streamers,” said Ashalley-Anthony. “Getting the community together and enjoying ourselves, having a good time, it is important to see black people enjoying themselves, to see black people working together – these aren’t things we usually see in the media.”

In addition to the much needed representation, the event will also be raising money for Stand Up To Racism, a UK-based charity that campaigns against racism, fascism, Islamophobia and antisemitism.

“It was also important for us to use this event to also raise money for charity and Stand Up To Racism was a perfect choice,” Ashalley-Anthony said.

The Melanin Gamers All Black Apex Event will stream live on the Melanin Gamers Twitch channel starting at 4 p.m. ET/9 p.m. BST. Some of the Captains participating will also be streaming the event from their perspectives on their own channels. Follow Melanin Gamers on Twitter for further updates and info as the event approaches.
