Baldur’s Gate 3: How to find and save Duke Ulder Ravengard in BG3

The rightful Duke of Baldur's Gate 3

Duke Ulder Ravengard is one of the many characters that come into focus as Act 3 starts to develop in Baldur’s Gate 3. The former Duke of Baldur’s Gate is Wyll’s father and is being manipulated by both Lord Enver Gortash and Orin the Red to do their bidding in Acts 2 and 3.

Upon reaching the Wrym’s Rock Fortress in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will get to attend the coronation of Lord Gortash, and Ulder Ravengard is there to do the honors. Of course, Ravengard has a tadpole in his head and is being forced to coronate Gortash. You definitely have to attend this ceremony if you want to progress the Duke’s questline in Baldur’s Gate 3 and eventually get the chance to find and save him.

Finding Duke Ulder Ravengard in Baldur’s Gate 3

The exact steps you need to complete before getting to save the Duke are laid out below:

  • Attend the coronation of Lord Gortash at Wrym’s Rock
  • Talk to Mizora in Wrym’s Rock after the coronation has concluded, making her come to your camp. This requires you to have saved Mizora from the nautiloid pod at the end of Act 2
  • Make Mizora tell you where the Duke is being held by getting Wyll to sacrifice his freedom for his father’s life (this happens at camp)
  • Reach the Lower City region of Baldur’s Gate and make your way to the Flymm Cargo building

After reaching the Flymm Cargo building, you need to lockpick the front door and defeat the five wolves that are inside. Go into the basement hatch, found in the front left corner of the room underneath crates and barrels, and then make your way to Redhammer the Deviser. Redhammer is standing above a submarine.

You can convince Redhammer to take you down to the Iron Throne prison after passing a check, which is where Duke Ravengard is being held prisoner.

Before reaching the Iron Throne, Lord Gortash will appear and say he will blow up the prison if you continue on. To save the Duke, you need to go to the prison anyway. Upon docking, you need to go down the ladder and make your way down the eastern corridor.

Duke Ravengard is being held in the middle cell. However, you might have to reload a save for the Duke to appear, as he was not there when I first got there. He only appeared after reloading a previous save.

When you reach the Duke, you need to pull the lever on his door. This will allow you to control the Duke in combat, and upon moving him, Mizora will appear and give him extra movement speed and distance. Through controlling Duke Ravengard, make your way to the ladder and up to the submarine. You also need to ensure all of your party makes it to the ladder before your turn timer runs out.

With the Duke safe and your whole party in the sub, a cutscene will play that shows the Iron Throne being blown up. When the sub docks back at the Flymm building, you can speak to the Duke and he will say he will meet you at camp. All that’s left to do is go to camp, speak to him, and find out what happens between him and his son,Wyll.
