Kratos’ story will be retold in a different medium

God of War, the beloved PlayStation franchise, is being turned into a live action television series by none other than Amazon Prime Video.

According to Deadline, Prime Video is currently in negotiations to bring the action-adventure series into a new medium with “The Expanse” creators, Executive Producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, as well as Producer Rafe Judkins of “The Wheel of Time” series. Amazon Studios could also have a hand in this but they have yet to publicly comment on the matter.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Amazon is getting involved with video game television adaptations, however, as they are currently developing a “Mass Effect” television series and an upcoming show based on “Fallout.”

What will the series be about?

The God of War saga is a flagship title for PlayStation that began back in 2005 on the PlayStation 2. Six more games across four different consoles have been made since, with the 2018 release being the most recent of the franchise.

A heavily anticipated eighth installment, God of War Ragnarok, is on the way for 2022 release. This means there will be plenty of plot lines to choose from for the Amazon series in the works.

With a focus on Greek mythology, the games feature a main character named Kratos who embarks on a journey to avenge Ares, the God of War. There are many twists and turns within the saga and genuine, heartbreaking plot points alongside its gameplay. While the ins and outs of the television adaptation have not yet been revealed, fans will expect to see their favorite storylines from Santa Monica Studio’s 2018 title included in the series.

More and more video games are being adapted into television shows and, if God of War isn’t your thing, HBO’s “The Last of Us” and Peacock’s “Twisted Metal” will make an equally captivating experience.
